Imitation a hit at Best of Underneath Cincinnati Awards Festival
posted February 27 :::
Imitation had the privilege of leading off the first annual Best of Underneath Cincinnati show, held at the Cincinnati Art Museum on February 20, 2004. I like to think we got the show off to a good start – the audience was laughing, that’s always a good sign. My best guess is about 150 people attended.
A dozen short films were screened that night, with awards going to the audience choice winners and jury selections (jury as in five movie experts, not twelve angry men). As the audience choice winner for August 2003, I graciously accepted a square foot piece of floor tile with popcorn, candy wrappers, glasses and loose change glued to it (mine also had chocolate covered peanuts).
Greg Newberry’s Homefree won the jury’s best in show prize. The jury gave other awards to Pilar Nidal’s Channel 201 (cinematography), Craig Caudill’s Making Statements (sound design), Jennifer Schultz’s Women's Work (editing), and Laura Herman’s Bulletproof World (originality). The other audience choice winners were Andre Hyland’s Mesh Hat, John Parker’s Abstract Prayer Form #1 and Brandon Harris’ Waiting in the Dark.
