Imitation takes audience choice award at latest Underneath Cincinnati

posted September 14 :::

Michael Haverkamp’s first short movie, Imitation, was well received at its premiere screening. So much so that it earned a second showing before a larger audience.

Imitation premiered on August 3, 2003 at an Underneath Cincinnati screening at the SSNova Art Gallery. Audience members voted on their favorite movie of the ten shown that evening. As the audience choice, Imitation will be shown at the Best of Underneath Cincinnati event in January 2004 at the Cincinnati Museum Center.

Imitation stars Courtney Seiberling, Elizabeth Goffena and Samantha Northart as actresses auditioning for a role in an independent movie. A comic take on acting and movies, Imitation also examines how life and art intersect – and how they don’t.

Underneath Cincinnati screenings are held every couple of months at the SSNova Art Gallery on Central Parkway. Eclectic pictures from local filmmakers are featured, including narrative shorts, documentaries and avant-garde works. About fifty people attended the August 3 screening.

Movies for the Best of Underneath Cincinnati are selected in two ways. Audience members vote on their favorite movie, with the top vote-getter moving on. Additional movies are chosen by a distinguished panel of judges, including filmmaker Thomas Newberry (Homefree) and critics Margaret McGurk of The Cincinnati Enquirer and Steve Ramos of CityBeat. The next Underneath Cincinnati screening will be November 9.
