Synopsis
Jessica Stewart, Christie Krinpasky and Karen Teller are auditioning for a part in a first-time director's debut feature. Jessica's been a success on the Cincinnati theatre scene -- she's got her own ideas for how this movie should go. Christie's been struggling to get roles -- and her shaky audition nerves don't help. Karen's never acted before -- she's trying out on a whim. But she finds the role she's auditioning for looks a bit like the one she's playing in real life.
Production Notes
Two locations, nine people, twenty bucks. That's what it took to make Imitation. The production budget was spent on four mini-DV tapes. Of course it helps when cast and crew members work for free and the DP's got access to free gear. Plus it's never that easy. Not after the bad directions, thunderstorm, power outage and outbreak of hives are factored in. The second day of shooting did go much smoother.
Cast
Elizabeth Goffena ("Christie Krinpasky") grew up an only child in Sidney, Ohio. Though in ballet and various other performances growing up, it was her leading role in her senior class play that truly gave her the acting bug. Upon graduating from her high school in 1998, she moved to Cincinnati to attend Xavier University. She graduated with a BA in Communication Arts/Creative Advertising in 2002. During her four years there she participated in various Xavier Players productions ranging from an excerpt of The Vagina Monologues to playing Satan. It was also while attending Xavier that she auditioned for Beginning. Natalie was her first on-screen performance and her first collaboration with Michael Haverkamp. She then went on to play a role in the short film Imitation and recently completed shooting on a new feature with Haverkamp, playing Katie in the romantic comedy Autumn Leaves.
Courtney Seiberling ("Jessica Stewart") is a recent graduate of the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music where she received her BFA in dramatic performance. At UC, she appeared in Antigone, The Skin of Our Teeth, The Tempest, and spent her summers doing Shakespeare festivals and performing with Miami University's summer program. She has also done a variety of independent films in the Cincinnati area. Courtney currently resides in New York City, works with the Periwinkle National Theater and is pursing her dream!
Samantha Northart ("Karen Teller") made her movie debut playing one of the leads in Matt Freudenberg's ensemble coming-of-age movie, A Generation Lost. In addition to Imitation, she appeared in Michael Haverkamp's Beginning and the upcoming Autumn Leaves.
